Episode #038 - TEDx Speaker & Writer Terri Trespicio

For a few years, I've had it on my goals list to speak at a TEDx event. I've felt for years that I have "ideas worth spreading" and that quaint little stage is where I wanted to share them with the world.

But which idea? How would I frame it? What's been going on with the submissions I've sent so far?

In this episode, I speak with someone who not only has accomplished that elusive goal of mine, but also helps people realize their dream of speaking at TEDx through coaching and writing.

Meet the hilarious, honest and incredibly invigorating Terri Trespicio.

Terri Trespicio is a New York–based writer, branding consultant, and co-creator of Lights Camera Expert, an online program for authors, experts and entrepreneurs who want to grow their media presence. Her TEDx talk "Stop Searching For Your Passion" has racked up over 3.5 million views on YouTube!

For nearly a decade, she served as a senior editor and radio host at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Her work has appeared in Jezebel, XOJane, Marie Claire, Prevention, MindBodyGreen, and DailyWorth. Her TV credits include the Today show, Dr. Oz, The Early Show, The Martha Stewart Show and The Anderson Cooper Show. She also hosted and produced her own video show and podcast, Solopreneur, on the Whatever It Takes Network.

In this episode, I talk with Terri about:

What made her want to do a TEDx Talk?

What the experience was like and what it meant to her?

What recommendations she has for someone that wants to give a TEDx Talk (Crafting the submission, how to market yourself, etc.)?

What are the best speaker tips to maximize your actual talk (TED or otherwise)?

As a special surprise, Terri actually works with me on my TEDx topic and takes my initial thought and strips it bare and pulls the most unusual and perfect new approach. You don't want to miss this! It's a perfect lesson for anyone who gives speeches or just wants to be a better storyteller.
